Dental Implants in Tijuana

Dental implants are basically artificial teeth used to replace one or more missing teeth. They’re one of the most impressive and effective treatments in modern dentistry; reliable, long-lasting, and predictable in their results. There is simply no better treatment yet devised to restore the look and function of missing or irreparably damaged teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

The simplest way to describe it is that a dental implant is an artificial tooth.

A dental implant is made out of three parts. The first part is a titanium screw, which replaces the root of the original tooth. The second part is a connector which allows the titanium screw to connect to the last component: a ceramic crown.

This artificial crown sits on top of the screw and replaces the crown — the part above the gum line — of the original tooth.

Why Are Dental Implants Important?

Our teeth move throughout our whole lives. When a tooth is removed — maybe due to damage, untreated disease, or any of a number of factors — it’s important to replace it. Any gap left between teeth can eventually lead to the remaining teeth on either side tipping over and causing massive problems.

What’s the Treatment Like?

Firstly, the tooth is extracted. This can be a straightforward procedure or a complex one, depending on a few factors such as how damaged the tooth already is.

Secondly, a titanium screw is placed into the void left by the tooth root. This screw is left there for several weeks or months, allowing the bone to grow around and onto the screw.

Thirdly, a cap is placed over this implant, and lastly the crown is placed over the cap.

The process takes a few months from beginning to end. The longest time is to let the implanted screw fuse to the bone to ensure a solid foundation. Many dentists will use same-day-crown technologies to cosmetically replace the missing tooth early, before replacing this with a ceramic crown to finish the procedure.

How Long do Dental Implants Last?

Failure rates of dental implants over several decades are less than one percent. They’re one of the most reliable, long-lasting procedures in modern dentistry. A well-maintained dental implant will last the rest of your life once it’s in place.

Who Is It For?

Dental implants are for anyone who needs to replace a missing tooth. There is no real upper age limit, with patients into their 80s successfully receiving implants.

However, there are a few important contraindicators for getting implants. People who smoke, for example, are at too high a risk of infection during the procedure.

Patients with severe periodontitis might not have enough jaw bone volume left to successfully house the implant.

Several pre-existing medical conditions can also preclude you from getting implants. Your dentist in Tijuana will assess your situation personally and let you know whether you’re an eligible candidate for the procedure.
